Fall 2022 Mobile Mural Project Weeki Wachee Wonders

Theme & Partnership

Brooksville Main Street and the Hernando County Arts Council invite artists to create an original art piece for our Mobile Mural Program. This is the fifth round of Mobile Murals! The Mobile Murals and the artists behind them were a part of Brooksville Main Street's inaugural Multicultural Festival done in partnership with Hernando Hispanic Heritage on October 8th in Hernando Park.

This round, we celebrate Weeki Wachee with the theme, ‘Weeki Wachee Wonders’. Hernando County is home to many natural treasures. The preserves and parks around our county have provided backdrops to many nostalgic films and have served as some of Florida's oldest attractions for decades. Most notably, Weeki Wachee State Park. In Fall 2022, we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the park.

Weeki Wachee was named by the Seminole Indians. It means, "Little Spring," or Winding River." The deep spring and incredible river are home to wondrous aquatic creatures and as we all know... Mermaids!

  • Kayla Heintz

    Kayla Heintz

My name is Kayla Heintz and I am a full time artist currently living in St. Pete, FL. I have been drawing and painting since I can remember, but lost touch with my creative side for a few years after high school. While working in an herbarium in college, I started drawing botanical illustrations. My passion for the natural world lead me back to my love for art and it has since helped me through some of the tougher parts of my life. I’m still finding my way and testing out the elements of art that I connect with, but at the moment, I love using acrylics and exploring the contrast and saturation of light and color in botanicals, landscapes, and everyday objects. I have also found joy in exploring more unique subject matter like aliens and UFOs. I think there is something nostalgic about allowing ourselves to enjoy art that is outside of the norm. I hope that my art brings you as much joy as it brings me to create it!

In 2018 she started working at Soft Water Studios as a Gallery Assistant and graduated from USFSP later that same year. "After undergrad, I became more and more involved in the local scene. • Nancy Barry

My name is Nancy Barry & I am a Mixed Media Artist from Florida. I graduated University of Tampa in 2016 with a BA in Fine Arts. I am a mother of two & a business owner so art for me really is a form of release and therapy. The idea that we only have this moment in time to make it count, really drives the direction of my art. • Michael Nicholson

Native to Hernando County, I have been living here off and on for over 30 years. I always wanted to keep an imaginative mindset to stay creative, leading me to branch off of that using my art. I love using my skills as a fantasy illustrator to educate my students. Things such as, graduating from Hernando High school, having a master’s degree in fine arts from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, teaching drawing, photography, and humanities at Pasco-Hernando State College, and teaching in Hernando County as an art teacher for over 20 years has allowed me to do so. I have also worked for Forgotten Playgrounds under Tommy Castillo, traveled around the country selling art at Comic Con, and currently own an art-oriented company called Michaelsonart.LLC. My company does a number of things, including house painting, selling art products, posters, and painting murals as well as restoring antique items such as horse carousels. The company also sponsors an art club that operates out of Hernando Highschool. The club helps promote students’ work at art shows and teaches my students how to sell their artwork in a professional atmosphere.
