Snap & Soar: Interactive Murals for Joyful Moments

Calling all visionary artists! We invite you to create an interactive mural, using your canvas to inspire, engage, and uplift the community through your art!

We are seeking artists who can transform canvases into works of art that encourage viewers to pose for photos and share moments of joy with those around them with the mural’s immersive elements. Whether it is through mystical wings, playful backdrops, or other unique forms of interactive magic, you are invited to submit a proposal and be a part of this artistic journey for the next round of mobile murals. This theme celebrates the fusion of art and happiness, inviting you to engage with vibrant murals that are designed to make viewers smile. These murals are intended to brighten each day, one snapshot at a time.

The Mobile Mural Program, presented by Brooksville Main Street, is made possible by the Florida Division of Arts & Culture grant and with the support of the Hernando County Fine Arts Council and our generous sponsors.

Project Details

Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Mobile Mural Project. This project aims to enhance the value of downtown Brooksville, promote quality artwork, support artists, cause viewer interaction, provoke thought, entertain, and excite visitors all through the work of public art.

Design Requirements

Artists are required to submit a portfolio and description of the intended design. This will ensure that we avoid duplicate subject matter.

Sketches/digital mock-ups are recommended, but not required. Our team does appreciate rough sketches of your design, but it is not a requirement. If you do not submit a sketch, please make sure your portfolio is strong and has a similar subject matter to your proposed design. Designs must be family-friendly. Nudity or depictions of drug use will not be accepted.

FAQs

  • Artists are required to use professional-grade exterior acrylic paint. Exterior house paint is highly recommended, such as Sherman Williams's "Resilience" or Ben Moore paints. Professional-grade spray paint is also allowed. Some artists also use the spray acrylic to put a clear coat over the mural when it's done - but that extra step is up to you and not required.

Glued-on components, glitter, or any other multi-media are not appropriate for this project as the murals will be displayed outside.

If artists have questions regarding paint, please email project coordinator Jessica at jessica.knutila@gmail.com.

  • Our team does appreciate sketches, and we have required them in past projects. However, this is no longer a requirement. We understand that a strong portfolio can support your proposal in lieu of a sketch. Many artists have also submitted digital renderings, collages, or photographs to support their proposed design, and we want to give these applications a fair chance.

While we do appreciate sketches, if you choose not to include one, we highly recommend submitting similar subject matter in your portfolio to make it easier for our team to visualize your proposal.

  • The Mobile Murals will be painted on canvas tarps. The sizes are 5x7, 6x10, and 5x15. The tarps will be primed and waterproofed to make a durable surface that is ready for paint! There may be small wrinkles in the canvas material - this is normal, and will not affect the quality of the artwork once it is hung on a wall.

Pick-up is at the Brooksville Main Street office at 205 E Fort Dade Ave in Brooksville.

  • The Mobile Mural Page on our website will include artist bios and photos alongside their provided contact information.

Brooksville Main Street agrees to tag artists on social media posts including their artwork. When sharing the murals on our website, BMS will also link to the artist's website so long as the artist provided us with said information.

  • Artists will be featured on the Brooksville Main Street website. Artists that live in Hernando County will be automatically added to The Hernando Arts Directory courtesy of the Hernando Fine Arts Council. The purpose of this directory is to give artists a place to display their talents in all disciplines and allow visitors to view and search the wide variety of talent that is in our community.

  • Selected artists are required to sign a release form to participate. This form will grant Brooksville Main Street the right to use images of the mural in promotional materials and advertising. Occasionally, we will use the images on merch, such as stickers, mugs, t-shirts, and prints. All proceeds from such sales will go to BMS. The artist retains all copyrights to the artwork if they wish to print on their own as well.

  • Artists are required to pick up their tarp from the Brooksville Main Street office in Brooksville, Florida. Although we welcome artists statewide, this project was created with local artists in mind.

  • Selected artists are required to participate in our mural unveiling event for a Meet and Greet. Artists may set up a booth, sell their artwork, and live paint or demo at their space.

  • Community sponsors, grants from our Cultural Alliance, and auction funds from the previous round help Brooksville Main Street fund this project. Brooksville Main Street is proud to work with many community partners. Inquire within for sponsorship opportunities.

  • All money raised in the mural auction + any merch sales goes back to Brooksville Main Street to ensure an ongoing Mobile Mural Project Series.
