Spring 2022

Mobile Mural Project

Making the city Beautiful

Brooksville Main Street and the Hernando County Fine Arts Council invites artists to create an original art piece for our Mobile Mural Program. This is our fourth round of Mobile Mini Murals. The mobile murals will be a part of two Brooksville Main Street events: Murals in the Park and the Florida Mermaid Trail Festival.

This event is made possible by the following community partners: ProCivil 360 | Coastal Engineering | L & S Design and Construction | Downtown Loser | Mountaineer Coffee | Junior Service League of Brooksville

The auction closes on May 23rd.

Project Details

Project Goal: This project aims to enhance the value of downtown Brooksville, promote quality artwork, cause viewer interaction, provoke thought, entertain, and excite visitors through the work of public art.

Theme: ‘Tangerine Dreams’

For decades, Brooksville was the largest producer of tangerines in the United States! Early references to City Hall call it, 'The Home of the Tangerine.' There were more tangerine trees downtown than there were houses or businesses for many years! Though the trees are gone, we invite artists to join us in paying a tribute to our town's history by incorporating the delicious tangerine fruit, bright, shades of orange, or eye-catching spring-related designs!

Artists are required to provide a rough sketch/mock-up of what they would like to paint for the project. This will ensure that we avoid duplicate subject matter.

Meet the Artists!

  • Jesse Simon

I am Jesse Simon. I currently reside in Brooksville, FL. I love doing all kinds of art from painting and drawing to photography and video production. I have experience in commercial video, short films, and professional wedding videos. My paintings are inspired by pop culture, social issues, and mostly involve humanity, emotion, and the human condition. I use lots of colors and bold light and shadow to show my appreciation for and to remind others of the strange, sometimes sad, but undeniably beautiful world we live in.

  • Julia Monteiro

My name is Julia Anne Monteiro - JAM ART and I’m on this planet to create an art world for people to escape, to remind them they are not alone, they are loved, and the world can be a beautiful place. Growing up in an artistically inclined family in Jersey fueled most of the inspiration to found my art business Consciousness Art Collaboration LLC and follow my lifelong dream of being a full-time artist and traveling to music festivals and art shows all over the country! but the truth is that life Isn’t always daisies and sunsets; we all know emotions and the motions of life can be suffocating at times, but in life, we find things that highlight the enchanting glow of the amazing world we live in so that we may find peace, love, and happiness. Art has saved me time after time and if it has that power for me it has that capacity to spread to everyone. art is always there with open arms and understanding. Each and every one of you are important pieces in my art universe, and I’d be eternally grateful for you to join me on my journey. thanks for jammin’ with me!

  • Justin Alsedek

"My artistic journey began in Harrisburg Pennsylvania in a home where creativity and music were highly encouraged. Starting out with photography, I knew I wanted a formal Art education. After graduating from Pennsylvania College of Art and Design with a BA in Fine Art Photography, I began the next phase of my journey as a traveling quick sketch portrait artist. As I traveled from one beach town to another (this is where the name Gypsea Arts comes from) I perfected my craft and branched out into new mediums. After 8 years of steady travel, I've landed in Ocala Florida with my wife and son. It’s here where I've been taking on art commissions, mural projects, showing in galleries, creating personal artwork, and traveling to juried art shows."

  • Brianna Reichard

“I'm Brianna Reichard (Aura Art)! I'm a 23 year old artist from Gainesville Florida. I've been pursuing my passion for art for the past two years, and it has brought me a tremendous amount of opportunities, and beautiful experiences. Traveling across the country with some of my best friends, vending our art at music festivals, and meeting the most eclectic people is the most inspiring life I could've wished to live. Art has always been an escape from dark times for me, and within the past few years I've been able to realize it is so much more than an escape. Art is an opening to endless joy, positive growth, and amazing opportunities. I'm excited to share my view of the world through art with you, and I hope you enjoy the view!”

  • Alison Papantoniou

Alison Papantoniou "Ali" has hailed from Brooksville, FL since 2007, after moving to warmer climes from Jackson, Michigan. Her pursuit of the visual arts had humble beginnings, only discovered after attending a "wine and painting" evening with her girlfriends. Something deep in her heart was unlocked when she first experienced putting a brush to a canvas, and this drive to create has lingered ever since. Ali uses a variety of mediums and subjects, but is probably best known for her watercolor and acrylic paintings. She hopes that you enjoy her surrealist take on the theme "Tangerine Dreams."

  • Gary Duquette

“I am primarily a watercolorist but have developed methods to paint with wine, coffee, and beer using traditional watercolor techniques. Over time, I have painted over forty wall murals, both inside & out! I teach group and personal lessons in almost any medium you desire. I host painting event parties throughout Hernando as well. Occasionally, I have the urge to paint large canvas paintings and detailed murals. I had a studio and custom framing shop in Stafford, VA, for twenty years, but now call Hernando County home. I'd love to do something special for you. I will be glad to respond promptly. I hope that you enjoy my artwork!” - Gary

  • Jessica Denmark

“My name is Jess. I am a native Floridian who has been in Spring Hill for almost 10 years. There has been a passion for art in me for as long as I can remember. Whether it's pencil drawings, pottery, painting, or funky crafts, I've tried it all.

Currently, I keep myself busy with furniture. Taking something that was ready to be tossed out and making it beautiful again. I like to call it " creating functional art" - one-of-a-kind pieces with joy and color and feeling in them.”

  • Nancy Barry

My name is Nancy Barry, I am a mixed media artist from Florida and a mother of two. I graduated from University of Tampa in 2016 with a BA in Fine Arts. My work has always been deeply intertwined with the chapters of my life, so painting acts as my outlet to release emotions. My work explores themes of transformation and duality, vulnerabilities and stories within my life. The emphasis is always on the process as a journey of discoveries. I love working abstract because it gives me the freedom to add movement and energy into each stroke. Each painting conveys a motion captured in time while inviting my audience to share in the experience.

  • Cassidy Wilson

“Hi, I’m Cassidy Wilson of Cassidye’s Closet. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember.

Whether it’s with a brush on canvas or thread and fabric, I always find myself using art to process life. When the pandemic first hit and masks were nowhere to be found, I used my newfound free time to sew masks for individuals that were part of my local assisted living community.

From that, I started my business Cassidye’s Closet, and expanded my sewing to bucket hats and other articles of clothing that were eco-friendly while still being affordable fashion. I am a proud member of Conscious Art Collaboration LLC and have traveled all over the country vending at music festivals and art shows, alongside partners Aura Art and JAM Art.”

  • Renata Villemaire

Renata Villemaire was born in Russia and has loved painting and drawing as long as she can remember. She currently lives in Spring Hill, FL. Renata has been an established professional artist for years now, and aside from being an artist at Rusted Jade Art Collective, she has also turned out major projects within our community. She is a featured artist in the Uptown Art Gallery, an art teacher for all ages (including classes/workshops), and also has tackled some large scale building murals as well - two of the most recent being at the @hernandolibrary in downtown Brooksville and at Neptune’s Grotto in Weeki Wachee.

She is also a tattoo apprentice at @rustedjadeartcollective! She has come up with some pieces of her very own watercolor flash, to be tattooed to add to her growing portfolio.
